Houston's Opportunity

The primary focus of the Regional Tech Hub grant per the CHIPS Act is to create a sustainable tech ecosystem that includes innovation investments, mass job training and shifts in the curriculum. 

Understanding the Program:

CHIPs Act

$10 Billion has been authorized through the Department of Commerce’s (DOC) Economic Development Administration (EDA) for regional consortia to direct a Regional Innovation Strategy. 

$10 Billion Broken Down:

$50M to award development grants

$2.95B to award strategy implementation grants from FY23 – FY24

$7B to award strategy implementation grants from FY25 - FY27

Grant Requirements:

Per the law, the consortium must include:

1. Institutions of higher education

2. Relevant Private Sector Companies

3. State and Local Government

4. Labor Organizations or Workforce Training    Organizations, which may include State and Local    Workforce Development Boards​

5. Economic Development Organizations focused on improving technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, and/or access to capital
